The Russian-Emirati SEZ Forum was held in Moscow

The Russian-Emirati Forum of Special Economic Zones organized by the UAE Embassy with the support of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and the Roscongress Foundation took place in Moscow. The forum included a panel session “Special Economic Zones of the UAE and the Russian Federation: prospects for cooperation” and an exhibition of UAE SEZ residents.

The event was attended by representatives of SEZs, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commercial and investment companies of the two countries. Welcoming speeches were made by:

Hamed Alhebsi, Deputy Head of UAE Diplomatic Mission in Moscow: “Russian-Arab relations are actively developing, especially from 2024 onwards. SEZs are one of the most promising instruments of cooperation between our countries”.
Pavel Kalmychek, Director of the Bilateral Cooperation Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia: “Today's forum is an important continuation of the discussion initiated this year within the BRICS framework. This year, important agreements on SEZs, outlined in the Framework Agreement signed in July this year by the BRICS Ministers of Economy and Trade, were consolidated”.

The Director of the Association of Clusters, Technoparks and SEZs of Russia announced significant progress in the development of international cooperation in the field of SEZs, noting the role of the Association's initiative to create the International Association of SEZs of BRICS countries.

“This initiative, supported by the Ministries of Economy and Trade of the BRICS countries, has already led to the signing of the Framework Agreement on SEZ cooperation in July and the consolidation in the Kazan Declaration of the XVI BRICS Summit of the thesis on the effectiveness of SEZs as an instrument of trade and industrial cooperation. Tomorrow, December 10, an agreement on the establishment of the BRICS International SEZ Association is expected to be signed. The Association will become a tool to facilitate business localization in SEZs of BRICS countries, develop cooperation ties between residents and expand the SEZ network,” commented Mikhail Labudin.
